Hollywood Strikes (twice)

The two largest unions responsible for producing TV and film in the United States — representing both actors and writers — had a lengthy strike in 2023. SAG-AFTRA (representing actors) and WGA (representing writers) did not produce a single piece of entertainment during the strike. This meant anyone connected to the film industry was unable to earn their typical wage.

We found this to be an incredible opportunity to purchase rights and royalties to popular franchises. Content owners — many of whom are independent creators — borrowed capital from The Partners Fund for a share of future royalties.

Meanwhile, consumers did not slow their consumption of content. In fact, quite the opposite occurred. Consumers spent their summer watching content from years past. And streaming services sought to license existing TV series and film franchises.

Our royalty stream is backed by over 1,000 songs used in shows like Dateline, The Real Housewives, Million Dollar Listing, and other well-known series and films.

We anticipate doing more of these deals as the industry attempts to restart after a long absence. It will take time to get production back to a normal cadence.
